I’m Passing the Torch Or I’m Turn Into A Crazy Doll Lady

Greetings!
I know long time no see! Buying a house can be a hellacious process. Our closing was suppose to be on the 19th of November, but we are still at the apartment living out of boxes with no end date in sight!!! It could be any day now or it could be two months from now.
My machines are packed in boxes.
My fabric is in plastic bags and boxes.
I contemplate unpacking them but my dresser/cutting table is gone.
Every inch of free space on the floor has a box in it it seems.
If I really get inspired I could go to Lowes, get big piece of wood, and put it on the bed for a make shift cutting table.
Or I could sew small.

I bought Brooklyn two American Girl dolls for Christmas.
Yup the dolls I said I was never ever ever paying that kind of money for.
But it was all she wanted and I know if he was here my dad would have gotten it for her. They always looked forward to Grandpop’s Christmas present because no matter how expensive or impractical he always got them exactly what they wanted.
She had just found out about them in September when a catalog came in the mail. I made it 9 years and slipped up with damn mail. She always gets the catalogs and InStyle magazines first. So since September that is all she talks about. She found out girls in her class have them, there is a store in Dallas where you can have lunch with your doll, and there are YouTube videos and channels devoted to them. Hooked i tell ya!! I rationalized that I manage to have one child that never got into the doll thing, and the second doll was so cheap thanks to some Today Show deal that I couldn’t pass it up.
The doll itself is one thing but their clothes ain’t cheap either, so when Hancocks had there recent sale I decided to get her dolls some patterns.
In my mind I was thinking: Awwww she can sew her doll’s clothes which will be a minimal dent in my fabric(remember I hate sharing my fabric) and will further her love of sewing.
Now I’m thinking: I could totally hook these dolls up!!!
Not much fabric so i don’t need a big cutting area and I could probably whip out several outfits a day!
Yup. Crazy doll lady in the making.

Or I could knit. :)

  1. They have always been my favorite doll to sew for- not too tiny, but watch out with collars- they don’t have much neck! Have fun- I predict a very stylish doll coming out of this.

If you can get her interested in the historical stories associated w the dolls I think they’re a fantastic toy!

    • You are absolutely right! Something that is easy to forget sometimes when you have that initial sticker shock. My family loves their “life issue” books for girls. Every girl in my family(mine included)gets a copy of The Care and Keeping of You. Their book on middle school is really great too. It will definitely be better than buying those Wimpy Kid books she loves so much ;)

  3. If you like dolls and sewing for them, I could really get you hooked on a little niumber named Bleuette who was sold in France from 1905-1960. There have to be 1000 sewing patterns or more for her and her wardrobe is a timecapsule of fashion in France over those years. I, too, love Amerian Girls and have several.

  4. PS: That is a Bleuette in my Avatar.

I would love to hear from you!!!! ♥ ♥ ♥
