June Goals & a Peek

Well it’s a new month and a new set of goals.  I only made two items in May but many many many muslins.  I’m hoping that this month I can finally execute at least three pairs of well made and well fitting shorts WITH welt pockets.   Nope I haven’t given up on that dream yet.   I have OOP Vogue 2981  for   reference so I’m hoping with the guidance and wide waistband I should have a nice pair of shorts with welt pockets and no plumbers crack.

I would like to finish the white jacket in my 6PAC….if only for picture purposes because I doubt the heat will allow me to get much use out of it now.

I would like to make a white peplum top and of course the ruffle top that is with the 6PAC.

Perhaps I will find my big girl drawers and make a mission maxi or two…

I have kept you all in suspense about the dress I’ve been working on but I think I will give you a peak.  I’ve decided that this dress will replace my dress component in the 6PAC.  It’s about 90% complete.  I need to do some hand sewing to finish it off.  I got the inspiration from Adrienne’s version of a J-Crew dress.   It’s a mix of two patterns, some additional pattern adjustments and a whole lot of  doing it my way.  I can’t wait to tell y’all the whole story! LOL  Anyhoo here she is.

She still got some pins in both armholes so that’s why it’s kind of sitting wonky on Diana up in that area.  Actually the dress looks 10x better on me! 🙂  I hate when I have the reverse going on LOL.

I’m hoping to have her finished and modeled before the week is out.

How about another bit of randomness since I was not the only one that let their FOs hang out on the dress form?  Does anyone else that has one of those large magnetic pin holders find themselves throwing pins at their poor regular tomato pincushion like it’s gonna stick?!!!  If neither is by the machine I don’t throw them, I hold them in my mouth.  It’s like I have implanted in my mind that all pin keepers are magnetic.  I’ve even done it away from the machine while draping.  Which had me hands and knees trying to find pins in carpet before my foot does!  I think I might be the only one for this one! LOL

May Plans

New blog, same ole Shawnta.

Yup I continue to make goals for myself sewing wise that I may or may not get to, but shoot making lists is fun for me.  I’m a disorganized person with an obsession for organization…it’s like Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

My wardrobe is in serious need of some basics.  Actually my wardrobe is in serious need of EVERYTHING, so why not start with the basics 🙂 .

I decided join the Artisan’s Square 2012 Summer 6PAC Seasonal Collection Sew-Along.  Here are the guidelines from the post:

1. jacket/cardigan/raincoat etc your best medium or light neutral colour (not too dark for summer, I think)
2.  bottom (trousers/skirt/shorts/skort/whatever) in the same colour
3. t-shirt or blouse in the same colour
[these pieces give you and INNER COLUMN and an OUTER COLUMN of a similar neutral colour – very easy to mix and match with the rest of the wardrobe, if boring to sew — please see the spring thread for examples as this has been very successful for participants]
4. t-shirt or blouse (underlayer top) in a second neutral — again, lighter for summer would be my advice
5. bottom in the same colour
[another INNER column]
6. a dress in a LINKING print (ie contains the neutrals together, ideally plus colour)

Of course I balked at the rigidness of the plan at first, but when I thought about it I need basics and basics are rigid.

I really love when I see looks pulled together with white blazers, and I think the shorts/blazer suit is cute.  Hubby thinks it looks old fashion and matchy…I’m still going to do it because I think all the pieces are necessary even if I don’t wear them together on a regular.

The shorts may get changed to a modified Clover since I’ve made all the adjustments to that pattern.  Which ever one I do there will be some experimenting with welt pockets.

The ruffle top is the line drawing for B5464 because I couldn’t find a line drawing for the McCalls but it is basically the same concept.

I’m hoping to have all of these done the first week of June.  You read me right.

Same ole over ambitious Shawnta.  The good thing is even if I don’t make my goal the challenge goal is to be done by July. 🙂

I’m currently piecing together another 6PAC  that involves pink and chambray.  This one may not be as rigid but has the same principles.

What do you call cheese that’s not yours?  Nacho cheese!!
