May Plans

New blog, same ole Shawnta.

Yup I continue to make goals for myself sewing wise that I may or may not get to, but shoot making lists is fun for me.  I’m a disorganized person with an obsession for organization…it’s like Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

My wardrobe is in serious need of some basics.  Actually my wardrobe is in serious need of EVERYTHING, so why not start with the basics 🙂 .

I decided join the Artisan’s Square 2012 Summer 6PAC Seasonal Collection Sew-Along.  Here are the guidelines from the post:

1. jacket/cardigan/raincoat etc your best medium or light neutral colour (not too dark for summer, I think)
2.  bottom (trousers/skirt/shorts/skort/whatever) in the same colour
3. t-shirt or blouse in the same colour
[these pieces give you and INNER COLUMN and an OUTER COLUMN of a similar neutral colour – very easy to mix and match with the rest of the wardrobe, if boring to sew — please see the spring thread for examples as this has been very successful for participants]
4. t-shirt or blouse (underlayer top) in a second neutral — again, lighter for summer would be my advice
5. bottom in the same colour
[another INNER column]
6. a dress in a LINKING print (ie contains the neutrals together, ideally plus colour)

Of course I balked at the rigidness of the plan at first, but when I thought about it I need basics and basics are rigid.

I really love when I see looks pulled together with white blazers, and I think the shorts/blazer suit is cute.  Hubby thinks it looks old fashion and matchy…I’m still going to do it because I think all the pieces are necessary even if I don’t wear them together on a regular.

The shorts may get changed to a modified Clover since I’ve made all the adjustments to that pattern.  Which ever one I do there will be some experimenting with welt pockets.

The ruffle top is the line drawing for B5464 because I couldn’t find a line drawing for the McCalls but it is basically the same concept.

I’m hoping to have all of these done the first week of June.  You read me right.

Same ole over ambitious Shawnta.  The good thing is even if I don’t make my goal the challenge goal is to be done by July. 🙂

I’m currently piecing together another 6PAC  that involves pink and chambray.  This one may not be as rigid but has the same principles.

What do you call cheese that’s not yours?  Nacho cheese!!

  1. Love your 6-pac idea and I think a white jacket is so crisp and cool in the summer. Of course your hubby may think I’m old fashioned too (I’m 69, lol.)

I thought the SWAP was overly ambitious, but I still managed to finish. Take it little by little when you can. Make sure it stays fun. You’ll be fine!

  3. Really cool SWAP, I love your choices.. And I’m a big fan of white clothes, too… I haven’t made a blazer yet, but it’s on the list! 🙂 Looking forward to watching your progress.

  4. I love it! Great wardrobe. Do you plan to wear red, yellow or green accessories and shoes? I’m in the middle of a B&W madness myself, that’s all I seem to plan to sew, LOL!

    • Def yellow but I’m not sure on the other shoes since I have been in a conservative rut since I gave away most of my shoes when I moved to Texas. I really want coral pair and a blue pair of wedges.

  5. Really love the look of your new blog!

I would love to hear from you!!!! ♥ ♥ ♥
