Scary September!!

September use to be scary and exciting way way back when it was the month you actually started school. Now everyone is 1, 2 or even 3 weeks deep into school by the time September rolls around. What’s up with that? Maybe that’s why my kids are smarter than me. :)I don’t have new backpack and teachers like they do, but this old dog can still go and learn some new tricks in my favorite hobby.

September is National Sewing month and this year the theme is take your sewing to the next level. Beverly has also made it Scary September, a month where we step out of our comfort zone and take things up a notch!

I’m a little late posting this, but I’ve been working a lot since the beginning of September to add some kick to my sewing. Some of my sewlutions are:

  • Making sure the inside is just as beautiful as the outside or my me-made garments so more use of french seams, bound seams, and better serging. (ALL)
  • Jackets!!! (Starting off small and doing a lined jacket Brooklyn)
  • Making a dress that needs a lining that does not have a pattern piece already made for it. (That RTW dress I blog about here)
  • Trying the same pattern again. (Saltspring. yup in a knit this time)
  • Working with chiffons and sheers. (Same as bullet 3)
  • Jeans!!!! (Named Jamie Jeans)
  • Button up shirt (B5678 and Grainline Archer)

Crazy list right?!

Here is my progress with B5678. It’s kind of hard to see since the print is so busy but I have used french seams on all of them.

  1. You look wonderful in that dress. Love the print and the fit.

  2. Your list sounds daunting and fabulous!

  3. That is lovely and you are certainly working toward your scary list. Well done.

  4. The fact you have a list is brave so as you achieve each piece, you become more brave and sewing becomes less scary. You’re doing great.

You lots of good sewing intentions – some of which I share myself. I’ve been meaning to try B5678. I think yours is coming along nicely. Can’t wait to see the finished look.

  6. Hi Shawnta, didn’t realise you were in Scary September as well. Those seams look great – french seams are a lovely finish on sheer fabrics.

The shirt is shaping up great! I didn’t know you sewed – have a blog. I learned to do a braided loc bun from you on YouTube!
